How to Protect Your Home from Burglars- The Best Home Security Tips

how-to-protect-your-home-from-burglars

Home safety has come a long way over the past few years, with the introduction of new technology opening up a whole new world of possibilities. It’s now possible to turn on the heating at home while you’re still sitting in your work office, and you can even turn on the burglar alarm when you’re leaving the country on a plane. This blog post will go through the multiple ways in which can best secure and protect our home from burglars.

CCTV

As Newington Green estate agent, M&M Property says, “It’s easier than ever to keep your house secure- CCTV footage can be viewed on mobile devices, burglar alarm codes can be changed remotely, and you can even get an alert if you haven’t properly locked up.”

This is all very well and good for homeowners with plenty of money to spare, but what do those of us who are struggling to pay the bills do to keep things safe? According to Best Gapp, “Old fashioned home security methods are still worth remembering if an all singing, all dancing set of security check isn’t feasible.”

CCTV-in-operation

Double Checking – better safe than sorry!

With summer just around the corner, now’s the time opportunistic burglars are looking for easy ways in. A common mistake is to leave windows open and forget about them, so always do a final check of the property before you go out and don’t leave anything of any value within easy reach. Keep your keys in a safe place- not under the doormat or a plant pot by the front door (a surprising number of people still do it) and only give a spare to close friends and family or a trusted neighbour. Double lock your doors and invest in some security lights- plenty of DIY stores still have some good ones on offer for less than £50.

The Dashcam

If you’ve got a GoPro or other kind of dashcam fitted in your car, this can also be an invaluable method for deterring- and catching- burglars. Many of them still haven’t caught on to the thousands of us who have these little devices parked outside our homes,  leading to convictions after the event.

High Tech Home Security

If you can afford to invest in some high tech home security, there are some amazing systems out there to choose from.  With a live feed of CCTV being delivered straight to your mobile home, you can keep a close eye on your home from the comfort of your five star beachfront hotel. Obviously there’s not much you can do about it from the Indian Ocean, so an alert will be sent to your local police department or security firm.

As LDG estate agent says, “Home security is all about deterrents. Burglars are far less likely to try to attack somewhere with security methods clearly in place, and even if they do get as far as a break in a high pitched alarm will raise enough noise and interest to get most running away before they do too much damage.”

As with many things in life, it pays to be cautious, so don’t take unnecessary risks with your home and invest as much as you can in a good security system.
